Edwards Shares a Few Words, Kerry Reports for Duty

Watching Edwards' speech, yesterday, may have explained a cartoon drawn by political cartoonist Chuck Asay. Edwards' hair was perfect and his visage had a very round aspect to it. Nice guy, that Johnny E. But his speech was an awful lot like Tee H. Kerry's, the night before: Unremarkable, uninspiring.

Still waiting for that "spark," I braved Kerry's speech. What am I supposed to think about someone who shows up and says, "My name is John Kerry and I'm reporting for duty"? This is the same guy who apparently showed up for duty in the Navy (?) and insisted on being sent to the front lines. Sounds like someone with a hero complex. And what's up with this battle cry, "HELP IS ON THE WAY"? Judging by how Kerry wants to reinstate a lot of government-funded social programs, I think I'd rather hear "The money's in the bank." How are we going to fund all of these things? Haven't we historically run into huge deficit problems because of government over-spending?

Kerry had a lot of impressive-sounding things to say, but I'm still not ready to wave the banner and plant a Kerry/Edwards 2004 sign in my front yard. Still waiting for the inspiration to hit.

Showing that within the Kerry campaign there is a heartbeat, there was this bit from USA Today, July 28, 2004: A Kerry spokesman, Chad Clanton, remarking on the GOP's latest practice of attempting to make the Dems look bad in light of filmmaker Michael Moore's presence at the DNC, said in an e-mail statement that "We're bogged down in Iraq, health care costs have gone sky high and people's paychecks are shrinking. And the Bush campaign wants to talk about movies? No wonder Bush and Cheney have lost credibility with the American people."

On the one hand, I'd like nothing better than to see the Bush/Cheney side show fold up its tents and go home. On the other hand, who would we be replacing them with?

Help is on the way.......
